Ken Green, Chartered Accountant and Partner

Title
Chartered Accountant and Partner, Green, Meikle & Smith Chartered Accountants

Tell us a bit about your work. What are some of the challenges and opportunities that you face?

As a Chartered Accountant licensed with the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Ontario, I provide professional accounting and advisory services focused on small businesses – startups, established businesses, self-employed professionals, charities and Not-For-Profit organizations. Services I provide include tax planning; audit and assurance; bookkeeping and business advisory services.  At our firm, a big part of our practice is tax planning as we help our clients structure their affairs in a tax efficient manner to ensure that they are paying no more than they need to pay in taxes.

We accomplish this by building long-term relationships with our clients as we believe that the better we know you, the better we can help you succeed. In terms of challenges, it is an industry that is knowledge driven, highly regulated and somewhat complex to navigate (tax in particular). However, these challenges present a number of opportunities for our firm: first, the opportunity to provide a service that is much in demand at a price that is affordable by most; second, the opportunity to continue to invest in our professional development to stay on top of our game; and finally, because we are guided by the professional standards of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Ontario, we stand out by acting with integrity, honesty and only engaging in practices that are legal and ethical.

What is one of your biggest personal accomplishments??

This is a tough one as I don’t think I have big accomplishments. However, I have a few small and modest ones that I cherish. One that stands out for me is the courage to go into business for myself and the successes I’ve had with the two small businesses I’m part of: Green, Meikle & Smith Chartered Accountants Professional Corp., the professional accounting business I run with my partner, Celia Meikle; and DeGreens Asset Management Inc., a real estate investment and management firm I run with my wife, Marie Green.

You know the meaning of the word “Manyatta” by now (manyattanetwork.com) but what does this group mean to you??
This group means a lot to me as I see it as a strong connection to my roots back to my homeland. I love the concept and I thank Dissi and her team for the foresight to start a group such as this. There are so many successful African immigrants doing great things in our city and Manyatta is positioned to bring them together to foster a stronger community of African professionals. I’ve met a lot of great people, shared so many interesting and inspiring stories and learned quite a bit from my interactions.  I’m really excited about the future of this group and look forward to us working together to build a stronger and prosperous community of African professionals. .
