SÉMIRATH FAGBEMI, UNDERWRITER, EXPORT DEVELOPMENT CANADA

SÉMIRATH FAGBEMI, UNDERWRITER, EXPORT DEVELOPMENT CANADA

For its first M Folk profile, Manyatta Ottawa met Sémirath Fagbemi, an international management professional at EDC who graduated from HEC Montreal. Sémirath worked in Ouagadougou, Montreal and Toronto before settling in Ottawa. The conversation revolved around the perception of Manyatta Network and what she thinks of the launch of Manyatta Ottawa. Here are excerpts from our exchange.

“I am a social person but at times, I am shy to connect with others.  There is a need for a place to feel comfortable, where it is easier to step out of your shell – a place that makes you feel like you belong naturally and fully.

I see Manyatta as a place to connect with others and build a community. I am not looking for just another place to network – those networking events can be useful once in a while and a nice opportunity to grab a drink and meet a few new people but sometimes you do not get as much out of it as you would hope.

Manyatta is not only focused on professional development. Manyatta brings an opportunity to explore other interests and gain a greater depth of knowledge, for example, looking at what up and coming entrepreneurs are doing.

I think what has been missing in Ottawa is the sense of community and belonging that Manyatta is aiming to offer and build. These offerings are above and beyond networking with professionals.”
