Title
Financial Professional and Educator, Motivational and Public Speaker
Marketing Director – World Financial Group
Tell us a bit about you.
Finance was always the biggest struggle in my home growing up. I had a single mother raising two boys trying to accomplish things that seems bigger than her. I grew up in Jamaica with not much knowledge about finance and it became one of our biggest nightmares. It appeared money was truly essential to sustain life and we didn’t have enough of it.
This is where my interest in money and how it works started. There had to be some secret and rules behind money because on one scale of the spectrum, you have the rich who kept on getting rich, the Middle Class who are getting by or just making it, and then there’s the poor, who ultimately keeps getting poorer.
I decided to become an Educator and a Financial professional because there’s an alarming lack of education about financial fundamentals. Most people are making decision today and aren’t aware that the choices they make now will be critical in determining their financial future.
My goal is to provide the tools to individuals and families to help them make appraise choices to meet today’s challenges such as, rising consumer debts, poor savings habits and insufficient protection on their assets and income. If I can provide the right map and guide families to building security, wealth and legacies, I will be achieving my dreams. I believe financial freedom is never a dream but a decision.
This is my passion. I want to see families leave a legacy and be successful at doing it. I have recognized over the years people do want to help themselves but ultimately they just don’t know how to go about it. This is why I absolutely love what I do, I provide the help they require. As a professional Financial Educator, I have successfully provided plans and strategies that have enabled my clients to now see their goals come to life.
When you understand the rules, you have a greater chance of winning.
You work to motivate others, but what motivates you?
Bill Gates once said, “If you were born poor it is not your fault but if you die poor it is your fault”. Growing up in Jamaica, I never had the most comfortable lifestyle, my mother worked extremely hard to provide for me and my brother but most times fell short. Today a major motivation is my family, but not only them but the desire to really make an impact in my community. I believe I have a generation that’s depending on my success and what motivates me, is the fear of failing them!
What is something that most people don’t know about Chevon?
Most people believe I am Superman with no weaknesses and I do not need refueling but the honest truth is, Chevon is in constant need of motivation. I am very hard on myself.
What is the best piece of personal advice you were ever given?
The best advice I was ever given was “It’s better to have no reputation, than to have a bad one” and also, “If you want to keep on getting what you are getting, keep on doing what you are doing”.
What would you consider to be the first step on the path to financial freedom?
The very first step to becoming financial free, is deciding to be financially free. Once you decide to do that, there’s nothing that could stop you other than yourself.
